Arizona School Tax Credit
Arizona Public School Tax Credit — What parents & community members need to know!
Arizona taxpayers can donate to Val Vista Academy, and claim a dollar-for-dollar credit off your state taxes!
Maximum credit: $200 per individual tax filer and $400 for married couples filing jointly (typically $200 per spouse).
The Arizona School Tax Credit is available to anyone who files Arizona Taxes.
When you help support Val Vista Academy through a donation, students receive financial assistance in the form of athletic and field trip scholarships, to name a few.
Your donation can qualify you for a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Arizona Tax Return.
It's not just another "deduction", it is an actual credit.
For many families and individuals, this benefit can also increase the amount you may be able to give during the year to help others. It’s a great way to reduce your tax burden and keep your tax dollars working to help boys and girls in your local community.
If you have any questions about the Arizona Tax Credit and how your donation can help, please contact the school for further information.
Take advantage of your Arizona Tax Credit opportunity today!
Note: Arizona School Tax Credits are non-refundable.
What counts as an eligible use?
Qualifying payments generally include fees for extracurricular activities and certain school programs, or cash contributions for qualifying expenditures. Typical examples elementary schools use the credit for:
After-school clubs, field trips, sports teams, or enrichment activities.
Fine arts (music, art) or club fees.
(Each contribution must meet the statutory definitions in A.R.S. §43-1089.01 and related guidelines.)
How to claim the credit (step-by-step):
Decide the amount you want to contribute (up to $200 per person / $400 joint).
Pay the school directly via the “Donate Now!” button above.
Get and keep the school receipt. You must keep the written receipt from the school showing the date and amount. Keep it with your tax records.
Complete Arizona Form 322 (Public School Tax Credit) when you prepare your Arizona tax return and attach any required state forms per the Form 322 instructions. If you use a tax preparer or software, enter your contribution amount where prompted.
File your state taxes. The credit is applied to your Arizona return for the year in which you made the contribution (confirm timing with your tax preparer if you’re near the April filing deadline).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
Q: Is the credit refundable?
A: No — the Public-School Tax Credit is nonrefundable. It reduces your Arizona tax liability but will not generate a refund beyond tax you already paid. Check with your tax preparer about how your liability interacts with the credit.
Q: Can I give more than the limit and claim the excess later?
A: No. You can only claim up to the statutory limit per tax year. Consult a tax professional if you’re thinking of splitting contributions across tax years.
Q: What documentation should the school give me?
A: A receipt that lists the school name, date, amount, and that the payment was for the public-school tax credit (extracurricular activities). Keep it with your tax records.
